President Rosen Plevneliev participated in the thirteenth high-level meeting of the International Center for Tolerance and Dialogue "Nizami Gandjavi". The forum, dedicated to the humanitarian challenges and the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, was held in Athens on 22-23 November in collaboration with the Mariana Vardinoyanis Foundation.
Global leaders discussed the problems in the Mediterranean region. The revolutions, internal tensions and wars (especially in Syria and Libya) caused a collapse of state structure and productive procedure in a number of countries. This led to a large refugee and migrant movements - an unprecedented challenge for the European countries.
Forum participants discussed in five panels on refugee waves, illicit trafficking in human beings, multiculturalism, separatism and lasting peace in the region.
